Each of Iowa’s public universities are increasing their funding requests to the state for the first time in years as the institutions work to keep rising costs off students’ backs.
The University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa have each requested incremental general education funding of $2 million in state appropriations for fiscal year 2028, according to documents published by the Iowa Board of Regents.

Iowa State University faculty and students who have spent their time diving into the incredibly fast-paced world of artificial intelligence tools turned their efforts to keep up with the latest news into a website they hope helps others do the same.
ISU computer science professor Wei Le and a team of graduate students have already seen more than 150,000 visits to Todaysai.ai, a website the group created and maintains to serve as a hub for news on new AI tools as they launch and receive updates and for educational resources on how to run certain programs.
